Palawan Pawnshop is the pioneer in the pawnshop business in the province of Palawan. It eventually extended its line of business to money remittance, the Palawan Express Pera Padala. Today, we are on our 27th year of operation in the pawnshop industry and on the 9th year in the money transfer business. We are a fast-growing company with a network of over 750 pawnshop branches in 42 provinces all over the country. We have taken a long stride since our entry into the pawnshop and money remittance business, and we commit to continue offering the best products and services possible to cater to the needs of the pawning and remitting public.
It was established by Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Castro on August 1985.The first branch was strategically located in the heart of Puerto Princesa City. But Mr. Castro observed that business is brisk where the market place is. Thus, he branched out to the city's main wet and dry market and soon expanded all over the towns and municipalities of Palawan. When Negros Navigation opened its Cebu-Bacolod-Iloilo-Puerto Princesa and return route, travel to the Visayas became much easier. In June of 1998, the first PPS branch in Victorias City, Negros Occidental was opened. In a few years time, PPS was able to expand in the provinces of Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Capiz, Negros Oriental and Aklan, with regional area offices in each province. PPS became a major player in the provinces it operates in, competing fiercely with big provincial players like Maria Gracia Pawnshop, RD Pawnshop and Prime Asia and the bigger giants M Lhuillier, Cebuana Lhuillier and H Lhuillier. PPS Express Pera Padala, the money transfer service of Palawan Pawnshop, was started in 2003. As of December 31, 2007, PPS has a total of 250 branches: 26 in Palawan, 40 in Negros Occidental, 26 in Negros Oriental, 49 in Iloilo, 2 in Guimaras, 20 in Capiz, 18 in Aklan, 10 in Antique, 8 in Romblon, 27 in Cebu, 8 in Bohol, 2 in Siquijor and 14 in Metro Manila. It has 600 regular and 60 contractual employees.
