In partnership with Stiftung Solarenergie - Solar Energy Foundation (StS) Philippines, Palawan Pawnshop - Palawan Express Pera Padala donated five photovoltaic (PV) systems and 208 solar lanterns to four remote communities and elementary schools in Coron, Palawan.
Stiftung Solarenergie - Solar Energy Foundation Philippines is a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting poverty in the Philippines by providing off-grid villages with sustainable access to solar energy. They empower individuals and communities through an empowerment-oriented approach that leverages both philanthropic and market forces. Their efforts give users the light and hope necessary to break the cycle of poverty, paving the way for further development.
One of Sts’ major programs is Empowering Education which shares the same advocacy of Palawan Pawnshop’s mission to give back to people through assistance and community support on education.
On November 2017, the partnership between the two came to realization when light system were distributed and installed in the barangays of Tara, Camanga, Buyot and Bucatan, Coron and to selected public elementary schools that were identified by the Department of Education (DepEd) as off-grid and among the poorest public schools in the country.
All recipients of solar lantern agreed on a pre-determined monthly maintenance contribution keeping a Gulayan schedule and good student attendance. This literally brings light to teachers and students for a brighter and better future.
